It became the country of Georgia.
Georgia is a stunningly beautiful country with one of the most welcoming people on earth, that love nature, and love to eat and drink. They also make delicious natural wines, using unique grape varieties and old maceration techniques, with skin contact or without.
Donkey Wines’ intention is to provide you a window into the unique world of natural Georgian wines, with its different grape varieties, maceration techniques and ageing processes. Having lived for three years and travelled extensively in Georgia, we’ve gotten to know some great winemakers, who cultivate a deep respect for nature, the terroir and traditional winegrowing, and who seek authenticity rather than profit.
All our wines are aged in clay vessels, also known as Qvevris, that sit underground and give a deep. This opens up a new world for amateurs of living, natural wines that come straight from the womb of the earth, with minimal human intervention and no additives or pesticides.
When you discover Georgia you are struck by the country's beauty, the delicious food and the generosity of its inhabitants. Georgian wines are the same: unique, beautiful and delicisously generous. So take to leap and discover a new world multi-coloured wineworld!
One of them is John, an American naturalized Georgian whose Pheasant's tears are widely known and appreciate by the best sommeliers around the world. He has relentlessly promoted Georgian natural wines across the world and supported small promising winemakers across Georgia, while preserving the traditional Georgian wine-making methods. It is a privilege to sell Pheasant's Tears in Belgium, together with other niche winemaking friends such as Lapati Wines, Iago's Wines and Artanuli Gvino.
